My name is Melissa Johnson. I accepted Christ as my Savior and Lord as a child at seven years of age. I was blessed to be raised in a Christian home and grew in my relationship with Christ through my home church. At GA camp at East Texas Baptist Encampment, I heard a missionary from Africa speak, and in that moment, I realized I wanted to share Jesus with as many people as possible! At the age of 16, I surrendered to the ministry at an FCA conference. I am so thankful to serve the Lord through ministry to a local body of believers.
While I was born in Alabama, I have called Texas home most of my life. I attended East Texas Baptist University and graduated (’98) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Church Careers/Youth Ministry. While serving full time in ministry, I attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated (2009) with a Master of Arts in Christian School Education. I am a Texas-certified teacher and a certified Christian Life Coach. I have taught in private and public schools in SETX and have served on church staff most of my adult life. I have been the Children’s Minister at Beaumont’s First Baptist Church since 2010.
While I have been so blessed to serve in ministry, my greatest calling is the joy of being mom to my beautiful daughter. Grace was born in 2014 and is a cerebral palsy/hydrocephalus warrior. I adopted her when she was three months old, and our journey as a family has taught me more about ministry than I could have ever learned in a classroom. Grace loves people, and her joyful heart draws others to hear her beautiful story of God’s grace and provision.
It is a joy to run the race of ministry and life with the team here at Beaumont’s First Baptist Church. The people of this church and the staff are family to me and my daughter, and I feel honored and blessed to serve here.
