Hi! My name is Jo Moody. I was born in Bastrop, LA, in March of 1969 to a Navy Frogman. We spent years moving from base to base, meeting new people, and learning new things. In September of 1975, my mother and baby sister died in childbirth, and it was at their funeral that I received Christ as my personal Lord and Savior, thus becoming the first of many “beauty from ashes” moments in my life. My dad went from a Frogman stationed on ships at sea to a single father of two girls trying to balance single parenthood and an active military career of 18-plus years. In 1980, my dad moved my older sister and me to Beaumont, TX, to be closer to family. Our lives changed drastically; tragedy struck again. However, during those years, God continued to be our anchor of hope.
I unexpectedly became a single mom in 1994. Only by the grace of God did we muddle through. Food showed up when bills were piled up, and miraculous provisions would be in my mailbox after a day of struggling to make ends meet. God was faithful, and I felt Him calling me to do something to help other single moms feel encouraged in the community, but I had no idea where to start.
Flash forward to 2020; God called me from my then-current faith family of 23 years to Beaumont’s First Baptist Church. He moved me forward in the call He placed on my life. In December 2021, I enrolled in seminary at Louisiana Baptist University and a few months later was offered a Residency position on staff at Beaumont’s FBC to serve with families, more specifically, single moms and their children. God is so good!
His providence has marked my life since He called me to Himself. He has provided opportunities for growth in my life through Him and used my moments of difficulty, personal tragedy, loss, rebellion, and tears to lead me to where He wanted me to serve Him. He gave me a Rescue Story to tell. It is a blessing to see how He has moved through my discipling so I can disciple others here at FBC and beyond. I look forward to what He has in store.
